Dato’ Abdul Majid (born 1st January 1946) was a career diplomat in the Malaysian Foreign Affairs Ministry for 34 years. He spent a substantial period of his career in China (12 years), seven of which as the Malaysian Ambassador. He was also involved in ASEAN matters and was a member of the ASEAN -China Eminent Person Group set up in 2005 to make recommendations on the future direction of ASEAN -China relations.

He is currently the President of Malaysia -China Friendship, (a post he has had held for the last 12 years.) and one of the founder members and Director of Malaysia -China Business Council. He now spent much of his post Ambassadorial activities, promoting closer and deeper Malaysia -China friendship and partnership, focussing on people to people and cultural ties as well as economic collaboration. Dato’ Majid continues to be engaged on ASEAN, particularly relating to Asean - China developments. He is very bullish on the regional and cross continental connectivity theme between China and the 63 countries as espoused in President Xi's Belt and Road Initiative.

DatoMajid was a recipient of the Guangdong International Friendship Award and the Red Star Friendship Medal Award by the Ambassador of China to Malaysia in 2015.

PPMC was formed on 4th December, 1992 by a group of interested personalities, including Mr. Tan Kai Hee, Mr. Lee Lam Thye and many others. The main objective is to encourage and strengthen the fraternity, understanding and friendship among the peoples of Malaysia and the People’s Republic of China. It also plays a pivotal role in bringing closer ties of friendship, unity and goodwill among its members from different ethnic background. Its first President was the late Dato’ Dr. Usman Awang, a National Laureate who passed away in November, 2001. He was succeeded by Dato’ David Chua.

In 2003, the late Dr. Raja Kumar was elected the next President. In April 2005, Dato’ Abdul Majid Ahmad Khan, an experienced diplomat and former Malaysian Ambassador to China was unanimously elected President of PPMC and he is holding the office till now.

As a non-governmental organization, PPMC has dedicated itself to the promotion of mutual understanding and friendship between Malaysia and the People’s Republic of China at the people to people level. In pursuit of this objective, the Association undertakes various social, cultural, educational, youth and sports activities and programmes among the peoples of both countries. In collaboration with other Malaysian Chambers of Commerce and Associations, PPMC also acts as a bridge in promoting trade, investment and economic linkages with China.
